Catch Up Bookkeeping Queensland

Your books are behind. Maybe a few months. Maybe longer.

You know you need to sort it out but you do not know where to start. The BAS is overdue. The bank has not been reconciled in months. You are not sure what the ATO might say when they come looking.

This is exactly what we specialise in. Accounts Advantage does catch up bookkeeping for small businesses across Queensland. We have seen every version of this problem and we know exactly how to fix it.

Why Do Books Fall Behind?

It happens to good business owners all the time. Here are the most common reasons we hear.

  • The business got busy and the books got pushed to the bottom of the list.
  • The previous bookkeeper left or stopped showing up.
  • The business owner was doing the books themselves and got overwhelmed.
  • A health issue, family situation, or personal crisis got in the way.
  • The software was set up wrong from the start and nothing was making sense.

None of these make you a bad business owner. They make you human. What matters now is getting sorted.

What Catch Up Bookkeeping Involves

Every catch up engagement is different depending on how far behind you are and what state your records are in. But here is the general process we follow.

Step 1. We assess where things stand

We look at your Xero file or whatever system you have been using. We identify what is missing, what is wrong, and how far back we need to go. We give you an honest assessment of the work involved and a fixed price quote before we start anything.

Step 2. We gather your records

We collect bank statements, invoices, receipts, and any other documents we need. We work with what you have. If some things are missing, we tell you what we need and help you find it.

Step 3. We rebuild your books

We go through every transaction, month by month. We code everything correctly. We reconcile your bank. We make sure the GST is right. We sort out payroll if it needs fixing. We get your file to the point where it is accurate and complete.

Step 4. We prepare overdue BAS lodgements

If you have missed BAS quarters, we prepare them all. As registered BAS agents, we lodge them with the ATO on your behalf. We know how to deal with the ATO when lodgements are late and we help minimise any penalties where possible.

Step 5. We move you to a monthly service

Once your books are clean and up to date, we put you on a regular monthly bookkeeping service so this never happens again. You will always have accurate books, lodged BAS, and clean payroll from this point forward.

How Long Does Catch Up Bookkeeping Take?

It depends entirely on how far behind you are and what state your records are in.

A business that is three months behind with reasonable records might be sorted in one to two weeks. A business that is two years behind with missing documents and a poorly set up Xero file might take four to six weeks.

We will give you a realistic timeline upfront. No surprises.

What About the ATO?

This is the thing most business owners worry about most.

The ATO would rather you get compliant than stay behind. Voluntary disclosure and getting your lodgements up to date is always looked on more favourably than ignoring the problem.

As registered BAS agents, we can communicate with the ATO on your behalf. We have helped many businesses get right with the ATO after periods of non-lodgement. We know how to handle it professionally and calmly.

It is never too late to get sorted. The sooner you act, the better the outcome.

Fixed Price Catch Up Bookkeeping

We quote catch up bookkeeping at a fixed price before we start.

You know exactly what it will cost. We do not charge by the hour and then hand you a bill that is twice what you expected. We scope the work, give you a quote, you approve it, we do the work.

Catch Up Bookkeeping for Construction Businesses

Construction bookkeeping is complex at the best of times. When it falls behind, it gets complicated fast.

Subbies who have not been paid correctly. Progress claims that were never invoiced properly. TPAR that has not been lodged. Jobs that were never costed correctly so you do not know which ones made money.

We have cleaned up bookkeeping for nearly 70 construction businesses across Queensland. We know exactly what a builder or tradie’s books should look like and we know how to get them there.

Catch Up Bookkeeping for Childcare Centres

Childcare bookkeeping that falls behind creates particular problems. CCS reconciliation. Government funding that has not been tracked. Payroll that has not been processed correctly under the Children’s Services Award.

We look after more than 70 childcare centres across Queensland. When a childcare operator comes to us with books in disarray, we know exactly how to untangle it.

Common Questions

Will you judge me for how far behind I am?

No. We have seen businesses that were five or more years behind. We are here to fix it, not to make you feel bad about it. You made the call to get it sorted and that is what matters.

What if I do not have all my records?

We work with what you have. Bank statements can usually be obtained from your bank going back several years. Xero keeps a record of what was entered even if it is incomplete. We tell you what is missing and help you find it where we can.

Do you deal with the ATO on my behalf?

Yes. As registered BAS agents, we can contact the ATO, lodge overdue BAS, request payment plans, and handle correspondence on your behalf. You do not need to deal with them directly.

How much will it cost?

It depends on the scope of the work. We give you a fixed price quote after an initial assessment. There is no charge for the assessment.

What happens after the catch up is done?

We move you onto our regular monthly bookkeeping service. Your books stay clean and up to date from that point on. This will not happen again.
